Internal Affairs Spokesman Explains Why Ugandan Authorities Asked Muzungu Boda to Leave

Internal Affairs Ministry spokesman Simon Mundenyi has clarified why a foreign national, previously involved in speaking out about local issues like potholes in Uganda, was asked to leave the country. Mundenyi explained that the individual, who was seen as self-appointing themselves as a spokesperson for the government, was requested to reorganize and obtain the necessary work permits to carry out their advocacy.

Mundenyi remarked, “We peacefully sent him to his country, asking him to first reorganize himself. He was, I think, a self-appointed spokesperson of government; talking about potholes here. So, we thought with the work he had given himself, he needed to have a work permit in order to do that kind of work.”

This statement comes amidst controversy over the individual’s involvement in discussing matters typically handled by government officials. Mundenyi’s comments shed light on the legal requirements for foreigners engaging in public advocacy and the government’s decision to regulate such activities.

Further details on the incident and its wider implications have not yet been disclosed.
